What is counselling?

Counselling provides a space where people can explore their difficulties in a confidential, non-judgemental environment.

Life is often complex and we may find that unexpected events cause emotional difficulties that do not go away by themselves. There may be no apparent reason for a general feeling of unhappiness or anxiety. We may have issues that we would like to explore out of an interest in self-development or, at the other end of the scale; we may be traumatised by an event or a series of events that may be from childhood or the recent past. There are many as many differing reasons why people go into therapy, as there are people who enter into therapy. It offers an opportunity to think and talk about issues of concern and make sense of them without the fear of being judged or criticised.

I don’t give you answers but I will help you to find yours. I don’t give advice but I will help you to make the decisions that you want to make. Counselling and psychotherapy is not a thing done to someone but a collaborative endeavour undertaken by therapist and client, and requires commitment from both. It leads to a greater acceptance of, and respect for, the self. It enables people to have the confidence to enjoy life and survive pain.
